Journal Entry #7: There are 7 basic elements of good design: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value and Space. For this week’s journal #7, google examples of VALUE as an element of art, and upload a picture of an example of value to your Journal #7 describing how value is used as an element of art.
Value The lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightest value; black is the darkest. The valuehalfway between these extremes is called middle gray. Space An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined or a sense of depth achieved in a work of art. Value is defined as the relative lightness or darkness of a color. It is an important tool for the designer/artist, in the way that it defines form and creates spatial illusions. Contrast of value separates objects in space, while gradation of valuesuggests mass and contour of a contiguous surface.
