Journal Entry #10: There are 10 basic principles of good design; CONTRAST, EMPHASIS, PROXIMITY/ALIGNMENT, BALANCE, HIERARCHY, SCALE, HARMONY/UNITY, PATTERN, REPETITION, & RHYTHM/MOVEMENT. For this week’s journal #10, google examples of EMPHASIS as a principle of design, and upload a picture of an example of EMPHASIS to your Journal #10 describing how it is used as a principle of good design. Refer to the PowerPoint slideshow I created below, for reference but ALWAYS write in your own words!!

Making a specific element stand out or draw attention to the eye. Emphasis can be achieved in graphic design by placing elements on the page in positions where the eye is naturally drawn, by using other principles such as contrast, repetition, or movement. Bold and italic type provides emphasis for text. Graphic elements gain emphasis through size, visual weight, color, complexity, uniqueness, placement on the page, and other features.
